Through a growing partnership between the Kiribati Climate Action Network (KiriCAN) and the Kiribati Rotaract Youth Club, young leaders are not waiting for change—they are creating it.
With rising sea levels, saltwater intrusion, and erratic weather patterns threatening livelihoods, food systems, and cultural heritage, the youth of Kiribati are meeting these challenges with bold, community-driven action. From planting mangroves to safeguard coastal areas to conducting awareness campaigns in local schools and villages, these young climate advocates are putting resilience into action.
One standout initiative includes community clean-up drives and composting workshops, which not only reduce waste but also educate communities on sustainable living. Youth, groups have also led climate storytelling sessions, sharing traditional knowledge alongside scientific awareness to deepen community understanding and unity around climate resilience.
This partnership is more than a project—it’s a movement. It empowers young people to become skilled advocates and stewards of their environment.
